Executive Director of Information Technology
BioTissue Inc. - March 2017 - November 2022
[Industry: Life Sciences/BioTech Engineering & Manufacturer]
Reporting directly to the CFO, I was responsible for the full IT ecosystem at BioTissue — including infrastructure, enterprise systems (ERP, CRM, BI, and integrations), cybersecurity, and IT operations — with an emphasis on FDA-regulated compliance and business continuity.
Infrastructure Modernization & Cloud Transformation
I led a multi-year infrastructure modernization program that transitioned BioTissue from legacy, facility-bound systems into a hybrid cloud architecture aligned with a “cloud-first, security-by-design” strategy.
Key achievements include:
Data Center Modernization:
Orchestrated the migration of all mission-critical systems from on-premise servers into a Tier III, M1-grade Equinix data center, improving system resilience, scalability, and uptime (99.99% SLA). Implemented redundant power, network, and cooling systems with robust DR/BCP measures.
Network Overhaul & Segmentation:
Designed and deployed a new enterprise network architecture leveraging VLANs and subnet isolation to separate production, non-production, and guest traffic. Phased out legacy Cisco hardware and implemented smart Layer 3 switching and redundant routing for optimized throughput and improved security posture.
Multi-Site Infrastructure Management:
Managed five geographically distributed sites (Atlanta, San Diego, Doral HQ, and two South Florida manufacturing facilities). Negotiated and maintained ISP and carrier contracts, implemented SD-WAN failover strategies, and deployed localized NAS/SAN storage for each site to ensure operational continuity.
Hybrid Cloud Integration:
Transitioned all eligible hosted systems to Microsoft Azure IaaS and PaaS, leveraging virtual networks, load balancers, and Azure AD for unified identity and access management. Retained the SAGE X3 ERP in a hosted Equinix environment due to vendor dependencies, ensuring seamless connectivity through secured VPN tunnels.
Cost Optimization & Facility Consolidation:
Achieved a $150K annual cost reduction in year three through office consolidation (Atlanta into Miami HQ), data center optimization, and decommissioning of redundant assets post-merger. Retired infrastructure from the San Diego facility following its transition to a 3PL distribution model.
Enterprise Systems & IT Governance
ERP Lifecycle Management: Led two full upgrades of SAGE X3, including schema redesign and integration to external systems via REST APIs, ensuring FDA 21 CFR Part 11 compliance. Later managed vendor transition to a more responsive ERP support provider.
Salesforce Consolidation: Unified two independent Salesforce instances post-M&A into a single, optimized platform—reducing licensing and support costs by ~35% while standardizing integrations with ERP and marketing systems.
Technologies used: Mimecast, Palo Alto, Veeam, SmartSheets, SAGE X3, Salesforce.com, ADP, Concur, Planful, Litmos, WooCommerce, Power BI, MS SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS, Workato and Apigee, SOAPUI, SQL Server Management Studio.
